Justin Parpan is a Los Angeles–based artist whose work explores the atmosphere and visual mythology of the contemporary American landscape. Drawing from a background in film, animation, and design, his images blur the line between cinematic storytelling and fine art, transforming gas stations, roadside architecture, industrial spaces, and suburban environments into fragmented psychological landscapes.
Growing up across small towns in Southern California, Parpan developed an early fascination with the overlooked spaces of the American West — places shaped by isolation, commercial decay, memory, and artificial light. His work compresses these environments into graphic forms, simplified color relationships, and cinematic compositions that feel both familiar and dreamlike.
Parpan studied animation and film at California Institute of the Arts and has worked across animation, visual development, and design for studios including Disney, Netflix, and Laika. Alongside his studio practice, he has taught at University of Southern California and California Institute of the Arts. His work has been exhibited internationally.
